So after constantly battling with people about Macklemore because he’s a straight, white, cisgender man that is treated as the voice of LGBTQ rappers/people in general, rather than having, you know, actual queer people speak for themselves, my friend sent me this.
It’s Angel Haze, a 22-year old pansexual rapper, freestyling over “Same Love.” Part coming out story, part political messaging, this freestyle is what I wish could actually have as much popular attention as “Same Love.” It’s rappers like Angel Haze that Macklemore silences when he claims hip-hop hates gay people, or when he tosses around the f-slur because he’s *~an ally~*, or when he gives an acceptance speech as Mary Lambert stands silently next him.
This is what Same Love should have been from the start. Neoliberalism, man…
I fucking adore Angel Haze
Miles Davis - Someday My Prince Will Come
When I first started playing jazz music, I struggled a little bit. 8 years of classical training just wouldn’t let me swing. So my saxophone teacher would routinely stop me during lessons to play a jazz classic from his macbook, so I could learn to feel it. This was the first song he played for me and the beginning of my love of Miles, and jazz in general.
"People can get snobby about pop music, and that offends me and bores me because it’s a hard thing to do, to distil complex emotions into simple songs and at the same time sing it with a melody that instinctively appeals to everyone. Any whiny solipsist can fill a diary with verbose doggerel and sell it on Bandcamp – myself included – and tell themselves that what they do is ‘real’ while sneering at the mass market, but that’s all bollocks. Pop music is as valid and as human an art form as any, and is much more difficult than these wankers like to pretend; anyone who claims to be ‘into music’ while dismissing it is an idiot."
Childish Gambino - Yaphet Kotto
Say what you want about Gambino, you can’t deny he’s got flow
Can’t believe this blog has gained new followers. Sorry I haven’t been posting - we’ll reconnect soon.
If you are going to record a demo in your bedroom, make sure it sounds like this. Wow. At only 18 years old, British newcomer Shivum Sharma has let loose a track he recorded in his bedroom titled ‘Flicker.’ Super talented, great music for your day.
Childish Gambino - Centipede
Shiiiit guys, how did I forget to show you this? Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino hits us with a fresh (and free!) track, showing off the old ‘bino flow over a smooth and soulful beat. Here’s hoping that this is the level of production we’ll see on the next album.

Ciara ft. Ludacris - Ride
I wouldn’t be holding true to this blog’s mission if I didn’t share Ride with you. I couldn’t count the times I’ve watched this video, because it remains one of the best damn dance videos I’ve ever seen. Luda’s thigh lovin’ (23” waist/Pretty face/Thick thighs) doesn’t hurt either.
Be an innovator.
